Choices for Your Pet’s Final Resting Place
At Peaceful Pets, we understand how important it is to honour your beloved pet with dignity and care. After saying goodbye, you may wish to choose an aftercare option that feels right for your family and your pet. We offer guidance and support with both home burial and cremation, helping you make the choice that brings you the most comfort while ensuring your pet is treated with the utmost respect.
Burial
For some families, laying a beloved pet to rest at home is a deeply personal and meaningful choice. If you decide that home burial is right for your family, there are some important considerations to ensure it is done safely, respectfully, and in line with regulations in Ireland.

Legal and Practical Guidance
In Ireland, it is generally permitted to bury a pet in the garden of the home where they lived, provided certain conditions are met. The grave should be:
-
On land you own or have permission to use
-
At least 1.2 m (4 ft) deep to prevent disturbance by wildlife
-
Well away from water sources, wells, or public pathways
-
Covered securely, often with a large stone or slab, to ensure the site remains undisturbed
Using a biodegradable coffin or shroud (such as wood, cardboard, or cloth) is recommended.

Emotional Considerations
Many families choose a quiet spot in their garden where they can visit and reflect. You may wish to mark the resting place with a plant, tree, or stone as a tribute to your pet’s memory.

When Burial May Not Be Suitable
If you do not have access to suitable land, if the ground is not deep enough, or if there is a risk to nearby water sources, cremation may be a safer and more appropriate option.

Our role is to support you in making the choice that feels right for your family, while ensuring your pet is laid to rest with dignity and care.

Understanding Your Cremation Options
Cremation is a dignified and respectful way to care for your pet after they have passed. It may be chosen when home burial is not possible or when you wish to receive your pet’s ashes as a keepsake or memorial.

Private (Individual) Cremation
In a private cremation, your pet is cremated individually, and their ashes are returned to you. This ensures you receive only your pet’s ashes. Many people choose to keep the ashes in a special urn or casket, or scatter them in a meaningful place. A range of memorial options is available, and we can guide you through these choices with sensitivity.

Companion (Communal) Cremation
Companion cremation involves cremating your pet alongside others, and in this option, ashes are not returned. This is often chosen by those who do not wish to keep ashes but still want their pet’s remains handled with care, dignity, and respect.

Costs and Considerations
Cremation costs vary depending on your pet’s size and the type of cremation you choose. A clear breakdown of all fees is available on our Pricing Page, helping you make the choice that feels right for you and your pet.

Our priority is to support you in choosing the option that best honours the bond you shared with your beloved pet.
