Why use a Quality of Life Scale?

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most difficult things we face as pet parents. As pets grow older or face serious illness, it can be difficult to know when we should intervene and let them rest peacefully. Questions we often ask include: 'Are they in pain?', 'Are they happy?' and 'Am I making the right decision?'. This is where a Quality of life Scale can help.

It offers a gentle, structured way to assess your pets well-being. It takes into consideration your pets physical comfort, mental wellness and dignity in daily life. While no scale can replace your intuition, it can give you clarity during a time that often feels uncertain.

At Peaceful Paws, we use the Pet Quality of Life Scale & Daily Diary, developed by veterinarians to help you during these moments of uncertainty. It's a tool to help you reflect on your pets day-to-day experience and to have open conversations with your family and your veterinarian. Most importantly, it helps you to make a decision rooted in compassion, care and love.
